Are You Really Ready for Nami Island?

Planning a day trip to Nami Island? It’s on almost every Seoul itinerary, and for good reason. Those iconic tree-lined paths you’ve seen in K-dramas are truly stunning in person.
But let’s be honest. As a local Korean, I know you’re probably wondering: “Is it just a crowded, over-hyped tourist trap?”
I have to be honest: Yes, it’s very popular and crowded. But there’s a reason why we Koreans also still visit. It’s an oasis of natural beauty, and if you know how to visit, you can have an incredible experience.
Today, I’m sharing my local, secret tips for the perfect Nami Island day trip. This is everything you actually need to know.
1. How to Get to Gapyeong (Nami Island Pier) from Seoul
First, you need to get to the Nami Island pier in Gapyeong. Here are your options, ranked from my favorite.
Option 1: The ITX-Cheongchun Train (Fastest & Most Comfortable)
This is my personal recommendation. It’s a high-speed train that gets you from Yongsan Station or Cheongnyangni Station in Seoul directly to Gapyeong Station in about 60 minutes.
- Price: Approx. 6,000 KRW
- Booking: You MUST book this in advance on the Korail website, especially on weekends. It sells out!
Option 2: The Gyeongchun Line Subway (Budget-Friendly)
If you’re on a tight budget and have time, you can take the regular subway (Gyeongchun Line) from Sangbong Station. It takes about 80-90 minutes but is cheaper (around 2,500 KRW with a T-money card).
⚠️ Local’s Tip: Gapyeong Station to the Ferry Terminal
Once at Gapyeong Station, you are still 2km from the Nami Island ferry.
- DON’T: Wait in the long taxi line if it’s busy. (Or if you want to save money)
- DO: Look for the 10-4 Gapyeong City Bus. Just cross the street from Gapyeong Station and you’ll see the bus stop. The bus will take you 200 meters in front of the ferry terminal.
Option 3: Arriving by Car (Maximum Flexibility)
If you have an Internation Driver’s Permit and are comfortable driving in Korea, renting a car offers the most flexibility. This is a good choice if you are traveling with an elderly or plan to visit other nearby attractions like Petite France or The Graden of Morning Calm on the same day.
- Travel Time: 1.5h~2h
- Navigation: For navigation, I strongly recommend using Naver Maps or T-map. Google maps is not ideal for driving directions in Korea.
- A Practical Warning: Be mindful of weekend traffic. On Saturday or Sunday morning, this 1.5 hour drive can easily become 3 hours. Personally it took me 5 hours to get to the island last year due to heavy traffic.
- Official Parking: There are several large official parking lots right by the pier. The cost is 6,000 KRW for the first 12 hours (very reasonable).
2. Arriving: How to Get Onto Nami Island
You’ve made it to the pier! Now you have two choices to get onto the island itself.

Option 1: The Ferry (The Classic Way)
This is the standard way to enter Nami Island (Naminara Republic, as it’s officially called).
- How it works: Your admission fee includes the round-trip ferry ticket.
- Operating Hours:
- Ferry runs from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
- Peak Time (9:00 AM – 6:00 PM): Every 10-20 minutes.
- Off-Peak (8:00 AM – 9:00 AM, 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM): Every 30 minutes.
- Price (Admission + Ferry):
- Regular: 19,000 KRW
- Discounted: 16,000 KRW (Students, Seniors)
- Duration: The ferry ride itself is only 5-6 minutes. It’s quick and scenic.
Option 2: The Zip-Wire (The Thrill-Seeker’s Way)
This is, in my opinion, the best way to arrive. You fly down a 940m wire directly onto the island. It will take around 90 seconds.
- How it works: The Zip-Wire ticket INCLUDES the admission fee and the ferry ticket for your return.
- Operating Hours:
- 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM (Weather dependent! It will close for high winds or heavy rain).
- Price:
- Regular: 55,000 KRW (This includes admission + return ferry)
- Local’s Tip: This is extremely popular. On a clear day, tickets sell out by lunch. Go directly to the 80m-high Zip-Wire tower first to book your time slot. Or you can reserve the ticket online too.
Option 3: Motorboat (Not Available in Winter)
This is a very fast and fun way to arrive.
- How it works: You take the motorboat going inside, and the ferry coming back
- Operating Hours:
- 9:00 AM to 17:30 PM
- Price: 27,000 KRW for 1 person, 52,000 KRW for 2 person. Also has a family ticket that gets a little bit cheaper.
3. The Real Must-Do’s on Nami Island (Beyond the K-Drama Statues)
Okay, you’ve arrived (by ferry, zip-line or the motorboat). Here’s what to actually spend your time on.
1. Rent a Bike. No, Seriously.
This is non-negotiable. Nami Island is bigger than it looks, and walking the whole thing is tiring.
- Bike-type: There’s lot’s of bike-types. Single bikes, Couple bikes, Family bikes (for several people) and electric bikes.
- Price: ar: 55,000 KRW (This includes admission + return ferry)

2. Iconic Photo Spots (Timing is Everything)
- Metasequoia Lane: This is the main event. To get a photo without a hundred people in it, you must A) arrive on the first ferry/zip-line or B) walk to the far end of the path, away from the entrance.
- Ginkgo Tree Lane: If you are here in mid-to-late October, this lane turns a brilliant, blinding yellow. It’s my favorite autumn spot.
- The “Winter Sonata” Statues: Take the photo for fun, but don’t spend too much time here. The real beauty is the nature around you.
3. My Secret Spot: The Riverside Paths
While everyone crowds the central lanes, I take my bike to the outer riverside path. It’s a quiet, beautiful loop around the entire island. You’ll find small art installations, quiet benches, and the best views of the Bukhan River.
4. What to Eat: On-Island vs. Off-Island

Eating On Nami Island
There are several restaurants which serves Dakgalbi (spicy stir-fried chicken).
- My Honest Opinion: It’s… fine. It’s convenient. But it’s not the best Dakgalbi. The on-island cafes are lovely for a coffee with a view, though. Only try snacks on the island.
- Must-Try Snack: Grab a Hotteok (sweet-filled pancake) from one of the stalls. It’s the perfect snack while walking. JJinBBang (steamed bread filled with sweet ingredient) is also one of Korean’s favorites.
🏆 The Real Winner: Eat Dakgalbi in Gapyeong
Here is the #1 local tip: Eat before or after you go to the island. The area around Gapyeong Station is famous for Dakgalbi. Why? Because the original home of this dish is Chuncheon, the next city over.
Also, any restaurant infront of the ferry would have a nice Dakgalbi, so you do not have to worry about choosing a restaurant. Just remember, try it near Gapyeong Station or area infront of the ferry.
Final Verdict: Is Nami Island Worth It in 2026?
Yes, 100%—if you follow this guide.
Nami Island isn’t just a K-drama set; it’s a beautifully curated nature park. Don’t go on a Saturday afternoon expecting peace. Go on a weekday morning, spring for the zip-wire, rent a bike, and see the real Nami Island that locals know and love.
The best season to enjoy Nami Island is mostly spring and autumn. In winter when there is snow, the scene is also beautiful. I would not prefer going to the island in the summer – Korea’s summer is too humid.
Anyways, happy travels!
